Whelan: ‘I’m seeing a top-signing at Leeds’ as Rasmus Kristensen lauded
Noel Whelan has claimed “top-class” summer signing Rasmus Kristensen had “one of his best games” for Leeds United against Crystal Palace.
The former Leeds striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old is a “top-class” signing – alongside Tyler Adams.
Kristensen played 84 minutes as Leeds United surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 away at Crystal Palace on Sunday (9 October).
As revealed by LUFCDATA post-match, the Denmark international racked up four successful tackles, four interceptions, three ball recoveries, two blocks, and two clearances.
Speaking to BBC Sport (7 October) about his start to the season, Kristensen insisted he is “satisfied” but “not happy” with his form since joining from RB Salzburg in the summer.
Reacting to those comments, Whelan hailed the right-back’s “mental strength and capability”.
Speaking after the Palace clash, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it was one of the best games I’ve seen him play.
“He kept a really good and talented Wilfried Zaha quiet.
“Again, sometimes when you come to a new league and club it can be hard to get your rhythm and confidence together.
“He’s one of these players who seem to have the mental strength and capability to just get on and overcome any hurdles that might be in his way.
“I’m really seeing a top-class player and a top-class signing, along with the likes of Tyler Adams.”

Leeds United sit 14th in the Premier League after eight games of the 2022-23 campaign.
The Whites face Arsenal on Sunday (16 October) before travelling to Leicester next week (20 October).
