Whelan ‘intrigued’ by Hay’s Leeds United transfer reveal
Noel Whelan is excited by the prospect of Leeds United potentially signing Romain Perraud.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites striker and boyhood Elland Road fan suggested the club are already working behind the scenes ahead of the summer transfer window.
Phil Hay of the Athletic reports the Yorkshire giants have a “genuine interest” in left-back Perraurd who currently plays for French side Brest.
“I believe recruitment this season has been good but injuries for the new signings has been awful,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“You’d like to think next season they would get longer run-outs and less injuries. It’s been a freak season for these new signings. It’s been a very up and down season with covid.
“It’s just this time of year with the pandemic and everything we’re seeing a lot of strange things happening with a lot of players and clubs.
“We’ve just got to roll with it at the minute and hence why a lot of clubs don’t want to let players go at the moment even though they might want to do it in the summertime. At the moment you want as many players in because you never know what’s going to happen.
“It sounds like a very interesting and intriguing signing. I do expect a lot of movement in the summer at Leeds United. Outs and ins once we secure our place [in the Premier League].
“I’m sure there’s a lot of background work going on right now trying to look at targets and prods and pokes to see if they’re available.
“It’s interesting, it’s exciting but there’s going to be a lot more excitement in the summertime when it comes to names coming into Leeds United, that’s for sure.”
In other news, Liverpool have set their sights on a Leeds United player who has “blown away” their scouts.
