Whelan issues ‘huge’ Celtic verdict and hails board for ‘brilliant’ signings
Celtic are in “prime position” to reclaim the Scottish Premiership thanks to a “brilliant January window”, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Ange Postecoglou must take “huge credit” for getting their transfer business done early.
Celtic have blitzed past Rangers atop the Scottish Premiership after five straight wins in the competition, including an emphatic 3-0 Old Firm victory last Wednesday (2 February).
Among the most impressive performers in recent weeks has been Reo Hatate, who has netted five and registered two assists in five games since his January switch to Parkhead.
Whelan suggested Celtic are getting their “just rewards” after their January business.
“They’re getting their just rewards for a brilliant January window,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“When I watched the Old Firm, I wasn’t sure which way it was going to go. But Celtic set the tone and the pace, and Rangers simply couldn’t live with it.
“They looked so much better all over the field and in every department. They’re in prime position now, but they’ve got to concentrate and stay consistent.
“Postecoglou has to take huge credit for getting these deals done early and finding these hidden gems. And they’ve got even more players to come back yet.
“Well done to the board for giving him the backing, as well.”

Matt O’Riley, Yosuke Ideguchi, Daizen Maeda, Johnny Kenny, and Hatate all made the move to Celtic during last month’s window.
Old Firm rivals Rangers and the Hoops are in action tonight (9 February), facing Hibernian and Aberdeen respectively.
