Whelan issues ‘massive’ Thiago fitness claim as new Liverpool details emerge
Thiago Alcantara could hold the key to a potential quadruple for Liverpool after his “perfect” recent form, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Jurgen Klopp has finally brought the best out of the 31-year-old after a stuttering start to life at Anfield.
Thiago has started each of the last five Premier League games and has earned plaudits for his dominant midfield displays as Liverpool step up their title challenge.
As per SofaScore, in yesterday’s (24 April) 2-0 win over Everton, the Spaniard recorded more accurate passes (119) than the whole Toffees side combined (95).
Liverpool dominated throughout the clash, recording a whopping 82.3% of the ball possession.
Whelan insisted fans are finally seeing what all the “hype” was about upon his arrival in 2020.
“Look, he’s a top-class player and a joy to watch,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s so calm, very rarely gives the ball away, and he’s capable of dominating a midfield.
“Now we’re seeing the best of him. We’re seeing exactly what all the hype was about and what made Liverpool go out and get him.
“He’s perfect for Liverpool and the way they play the game.
“Look, he will be vitally important for the chances of the quadruple. Having someone who can control a game is so key – and he’s got that know-how.
“He’s got parts to play in all four competitions, so keeping him fit will be massive.”

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League, a single point behind Man City.
The Reds have already lifted the League Cup this term, with FA Cup and Champions League glory still up for grabs.
