Whelan lambasts Rangers after what he spotted at Celtic – ‘there’s a real problem’
Noel Whelan has questioned the “desire” of the Rangers players after yet another Old Firm loss.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there is a “real problem” at Ibrox if Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are unable to “raise their levels” for the historic clash.
Celtic thrashed Rangers 4-0 at Parkhead on Saturday (3 September) – with Liel Abada, Jota, and David Turnbull getting on the scoresheet.
The defeat means the Ibrox club are already five points behind their bitter Glasgow rivals after six games.
Celtic have won three of the last four Scottish Premiership meetings between the two sides.
Whelan insisted Celtic have a “better style of play” than their rivals.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “This is one of the biggest derby matches in the world.
“If you can’t raise your levels for that and get goosebumps just playing – there’s a real problem.
“It’s just the emphatic way they’re getting beaten in these Old Firm games at the minute.
“Celtic seem to have a better style of play – they retain the ball well, and they’re devastating going forwards.
“At times, they make Rangers look like a very average side.

“It can’t be down to quality, so you’ve got to ask questions about the desire and attitude.
“They’re not turning up in these games. It’s either Celtic have a better team, they’re better managed – or the players don’t have that desire to go out and win these games.”
