Whelan: Leeds set to sign ‘£30m’ Harrison in ‘bargain of the summer’ deal

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison could turn out to be the bargain signing of this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Whites and Middlesbrough striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heaped praise on the 24-year-old for his “immense” performance against Burnley and suggested he is already worth nearly £30million.

Harrison produced a match of the match display at Turf Moor as Marcelo Bielsa’s side thrashed Burnley 4-0 on Saturday.

The winger, on loan from Manchester City, grabbed a goal and two assists in the win to take his season tally to eight goals and eight assists in 36 Premier League appearances.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club have the option to convert his loan deal into a permanent one for a £10million fee at the end of the campaign and are expected to do so after the season ends.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Harrison’s performance, Whelan said: “Just an immense performance.

“He was instrumental in everything good we did against Burnley, both on and off the ball. Bielsa would have been delighted. He was everything that you would expect from him and more.

“When he has a bad game everyone is quick to come down on him but that is because he has set his standards so high. We notice it when he is not at his best but he was certainly at his best against Burnley.

“His passing was absolutely spot on. The weight of pass, the timing of the pass, the vision, everything about it. Clinical. He showed a cleverness and intelligence.

“For roughly £10million this summer it’s an absolute snip. We have seen enough of him now to know he is probably already worth double or close to triple that, around £30m. He is going to be one of the bargains if not the bargain of the summer.”
