Whelan makes ‘100%’ Leeds claim after brilliant James reveal
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Leeds United new boy Dan James following his standout performance for Wales yesterday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Leeds ambassador claimed the 23-year-old “is 100 per cent made for Bielsa” after The Dragons won 3-2 away at Belarus.
James produced a brilliant display in Sunday’s win and provided the assist for Gareth Bale’s stoppage time winner.
According to LUFCDATA, the £25million summer signing boasted 90.3 per cent pass accuracy, 10 ball recoveries, nine victorious duels, four successful take-ons and three chances created in the match.
Whelan is adamant Elland Road is “the perfect environment” for James to continue his development.
“That’s a Bielsa performance all over,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“He is 100 per cent made for Bielsa football and that performance for Wales just goes to show it.
“We got him at a very good price and at a very good age.
“There is still loads of progression for him to make and I fully expect him to realise his potential under Bielsa at Leeds United. It’s the perfect environment. I expect him to have an excellent career with us.
“James just gives us something completely different because he is more direct. He is not about fancy tricks. He will just knock the ball and go past you.
“Bielsa could play him on the right, left or even through the middle. What a great signing.
“It came out of the blue and I don’t think there’s any Leeds fans out there who are disappointed with this signing.”
