Whelan makes ‘perfect’ Firpo claim after update on two Leeds stars
Noel Whelan has claimed the international break has come at the “perfect time” for Leeds United with Mateusz Klich and Junior Firpo unavailable.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Whites ambassador said the return of the pair after the break will be a big boost to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Leeds have endured a difficult start to the 2021-22 campaign and have picked up just two points from their opening three games.
Mateusz Klich and summer signing Junior Firpo were both unavailable for last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Burnley after testing positive for Covid-19.
Both are expected to return for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday September 12th.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the international break came at a good time for Leeds, Whelan said:
“It’s come at the perfect time, absolutely. This window gives us an opportunity to get Klich and Firpo back in contention.
“We know how important Klich is when he’s at his best. He is important to our attack because he has great technical ability and links up with Patrick [Bamford] and the wide players really well.
“It’s come at a really good time for Leeds because the two of them [Klich and Firpo] will be available for the Liverpool game and let’s face it, we’ll need them.

“Having Firpo back will allow us to push [Stuart] Dallas into the midfield area to give us a little bit more energy.
“Firpo is still adapting to the Premier League but you can see what a player and athlete there is there. Once he gets used to the demands we will have a top, top left-back.”
