Aston Villa will be getting a “different class” defender if they complete the signing of Kortney Hause from Wolves, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker is convinced the 23-year-old can be a valuable asset to the Midlands giants in next season’s Premier League.
Villa are set to trigger the option to convert his January loan into a permanent transfer after settling a long-term contract worth more than £1.5million-a-year.
Football Insider revealed last month that Villa had reached a verbal agreement with Hause to convert his loan into a permanent transfer and he is set to sign a deal worth £30,000-a-week.
“Villa certainly need more and better defenders in the Premier League and they have to spend their money wisely this summer,” Whelan told Football Insider. “
“Kortney Hause certainly seems a confident young man and has something about him. Can he adapt to Aston Villa? Yes.
“I know Villa fans will be questioning why Nuno would be letting him go from Wolves but they have some top centre-backs blocking his path. I think he’s different class to the defenders Villa had at the start of last season.”
Hause is set to add to the 12 appearances he made for Villa, including nine consecutive league starts, in the second half of the season that ended in play-off glory.
He is a versatile operator who can slot into the centre-back and full-back positions, and in addition to 80 Wolves appearances as well as spells at Gillingham and Wycombe Wanderers, the defender has been capped by England at Under-21 level.
