Whelan thrilled by Radrizzani reply to Leeds fan’s transfer enquiry
Noel Whelan has claimed Adam Forshaw is “like a new signing” for Leeds United after a lengthy injury layoff.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leed striker admitted he was wowed by the 29-year-old’s return to action against Crewe Alexandra.
When asked about a possible new midfield signing on Twitter (26th August), chairman Andrea Radrizzani responded with “Adam Forshaw”.
The 29-year-old made his first start since September 2019 in the League Cup win over Crewe.
Whelan insisted Forshaw is an immensely popular figure among the squad and staff at Elland Road.
He echoed Radrizzani’s thoughts and claimed he could have a major impact under Marcelo Bielsa.
“The thing is, everyone loves him at the club,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“The chairman loves him, the players love being around him, he is a true professional. I think you need those kind of players at the football club.
“Young players look up to him. You see the way he’s behaved, the way he’s handled himself, the way he’s come back from a really tough injury.
“Everyone’s had the full backing behind him. Everyone’s stood by him during this difficult time.
“We know it’s a horrible time when you’re a football player if you’re out a week, two weeks, two months. He’s been out two years.
“This has been a really long time and it is like a new signing, that’s how it feels.
“He looked so good the other night. It looked like he’d never been out of the game.”

Forshaw has played 53 times for Leeds across all competitions to date.
His contract at Elland Road expires next summer.
