When Leicester City plan to sack Marti Cifuentes as ‘big problem’ emerges
Marti Cifuentes is facing increasing calls for his sacking at Leicester City after what has been a hugely disappointing season so far.
Leicester lost 3-2 to Sheffield United at the King Power Stadium on 29 November, having been 3-0 down at half-time, pushing them down to 16th in the Championship table.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the defeat to Chris Wilder‘s side has ramped up the pressure on the manager’s position, and another disappointing result against Derby next weekend could see him sacked.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 28 November that Leicester are considering sacking Cifuentes following their 3-0 defeat to Southampton in midweek.
Following another defeat, the Foxes have won just three of their last 10 games and fans have begun to increase their calls for the manager’s head.
Leicester City could be forced to sack Marti Cifuentes
Football Insider revealed on 7 November that Leicester could sack Cifuentes if their results continue to disappoint and plumet down the Championship table.
Two wins against Norwich and Stoke in the wake of that claim seemed to have eased tensions, but a further two defeats have shown the problem has not been resolved.
As a result, their visit to Pride Park next week to face a Derby County side who have recently found better form will likely prove crucial to the manager’s future.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “The thing is, they might be low down in the table, but the Championship table is so tight at the moment.
“A couple of wins would soon have them back up there, but then again, a couple of defeats would have them tumbling down the table.
“The big problem for Leicester has been they’ve just been so inconsistent so far this season.
“They haven’t been able to go on a real strong run of winning games, and more defeats for Cifuentes will only increase the pressure on him.

“They’ve got some big games coming up, after that defeat to Sheffield United they’ll face Derby, and if that was to go the wrong way, it would ramp up that pressure.
“Obviously, then the club might have to make a decision on his long term future.”
Leicester face further heartbreak as points deduction looms
Despite the on-field concerns and calls for Cifuentes to be dismissed, bigger concerns are growing given the club’s difficult financial position behind the scenes.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider on 26 November that Leicester are facing a nine-point deduction as a result of their recent rule breaches.
Everton previously received separate two and six-point penalties following two different breaches, while Nottingham Forest were deducted four points.
Leicester were charged in May with an alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules for 2023-24 – the year they secured promotion back to the Premier League.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Leicester are likely to accept a PSR breach, but they may argue some of the numbers around it.
