When Sean Dyche could become Nottingham Forest manager after deal ‘verbally agreed’

Nottingham Forest are closing in on the appointment of former Everton manager Sean Dyche to replace Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was sacked immediately after Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, October 18.

The Australian only spent 39 days in the City Ground dugout before being relieved of his duties after failing to win any of his eight matches.

Football Insider understood that the Forest players were unhappy with Postecoglou in the build-up to the loss against the Blues.

Unfortunately, the players did nothing to suggest otherwise, as it felt the former Tottenham boss had lost the dressing room, with his successor needing to repair the damage.

Nottingham Forest closing in on Sean Dyche appointment

Former Everton boss Sean Dyche has emerged as Nottingham Forest’s top managerial candidate to replace Postecoglou.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Dyche is ready to step in at Forest and finally land his next role after being sacked by Everton in January 2025.

According to Rob Dorsett, the 54-year-old has already ‘verbally agreed’ to takeover at the City Ground and could be confirmed in the role later today (October 20) ahead of their Europa League clash against Porto on Thursday.

Dorsett also adds that the ‘final legal bits’ are being sorted as the Tricky Trees close in on their third manager of the season.

Why Dyche is a solid appointment for Nottingham Forest

Dyche isn’t the most glamorous appointment, but Forest are in a position where they can ill-afford to be picky.

After their defeat to Chelsea, the Reds are 18th in the table and two points adrift of 17th-place Burnley.

Forest have a quality squad and shouldn’t be fighting against relegation, but Dyche is arguably the perfect man to steer them up the table.

Speaking about the Englishman, former Everton chief Keith Wyness explained why Dyche is a solid appointment for Nottingham Forest after interviewing him for the Aston Villa job previously.

“When I interviewed him for the Villa job, he was based in Northampton at that time, even though he was still at Burnley. The Midlands is basically his home, and he knows the area very well,” Wyness said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“I get the feeling that if he came in, it would be more like an interim position until he could really prove himself. I’m still not convinced that Maranakis is going to pull the cord on Ange. So there’ll have been discussions going on through this international break.

“If Dyche does come in, as I say, I see him on a short-term deal, maybe a one or two-year contract. He is maybe not the whole solution that Maranakis is looking for, but more a short-term solution to make sure that they at least maintain a mid-table status this season.”
