WhoScored: Aston Villa 27-year-old named in Championship Team of the Week

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia has been named in Who Scored’s Championship Team of the Week despite his side losing 2-1 to Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

The 27-year-old was named alongside Birmingham frontman Lukas Jutkiewicz in a 4-4-2 formation based on the best performing players in their position.

Kodjia found the back of the net for Steve Bruce’s side at the weekend, but despite taking the lead against their Midlands rivals, they lost out to an injury-time winner from Ben Brereton.

Here is Who Scored naming the Ivory Coast international in their Team of the Week, giving him a rating of 8.47.

Newcastle right-back DeAndre Yedlin was also named in the team alongside Kodjia after he helped Rafa Benitez’ side secure a 1-0 win against Derby.

The American was an influential figure on the right-hand side for the Spaniard as his pace caused numerous problems for Steve McClaren’s men.

The Magpies are top of the Championship table on 62 points from their 29 games, 26 points ahead of Villa.

The duo were relegated together last season and have purchased a considerable amount of players to help them earn promotion this term.

Summer signing Kodjia has been one of Villa’s best signings, having scored ten goals in the Championship this season.

He will be looking to continue his goalscoring run when Villa take on league strugglers Ipswich on Saturday.
