Why out-of-favour Tottenham man should be handed lifeline by Pochettino v Hull
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko should be named in the starting line up against Hull on Wednesday.
Spurs host Hull in the Premier League fixture and will be looking to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Sissoko was used as a substitute in that game and produced a positive performance off the bench in the loss.
The 27-year-old has come under criticism from some fans this season after a number of disappointing performances.
The France international is yet to cement his place in the club’s starting XI, but should be given the opportunity to impress against Hull.
Mauricio Pochettino must be disappointed with his attackers this season as the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son have not reached their top levels on a consistent basis.
Sissoko completed his moved to White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window for £30million from Newcastle, but is yet to justify that large price tag.
The winger is yet to match his performances for France at the European Championships and has rightfully been used as a bit-part player by Pochettino.
However, he showed at Old Trafford that he can still make a big impression at Spurs with his direct and attacking style.
Sissoko offers a different approach to Spurs’ creative players and it could take his direct running to threaten Hull’s defence.
He showed glimpses last season of his potential by directly contribution to nine goals for Newcastle last season, but needs a run of games in the side to find his best form.
In other Tottenham news, Clive Allen has delivered a harsh criticism of the club’s player after his performance against United.
