Wolves’ search for Vitor Pereira’s replacement could soon come to an end as Rob Edwards edges closer to a switch.
There was talk of a Molineux return for Gary O’Neil, but the former manager publicly snubbed the Old Gold, leaving the owners scrambling to find a leader in the dugout for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
Football Insider understood that Erik ten Hag was also in the frame at Wolves, but it now appears that Edwards is the most likely to take over, parting ways with Championship side Middlesbrough.
Boro are currently second in the Championship table, five points behind Coventry City, with automatic promotion well within their sights if their form continues.
However, that could all be about to change due to issues in the dugout.

Edwards could be switching from a team aiming for promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016-17 season, for one extremely likely to be relegated later this season.
After losing Matheus Cunha to Man United, and the key duo of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo, Wolves are rock-bottom of the Premier League table with two points.
While Edwards’ move to the Molineux has not been confirmed just yet, it could be any day now, and Wolves will be keen to avoid making Premier League history as the worst club in the league.
If he does make the switch, and it would now be a total shock should he make a U-turn, the 42-year-old is basically setting himself up for failure, especially given how little the Wolves hierarchy wants to invest.

Of course, splashing the cash during the January transfer window could help the Old Gold to completely turn around their season, but it would make far more sense for the manager’s career to stick with Boro.
Looking at each team’s prospects, Boro look far more likely to be in the Premier League next season, and trying to get Wolves back out of the Championship would be a horrendous task next term.
Fans are all aware of Edwards’ links back to Molineux Stadium, but it almost seems like career suicide should he make the jump right now.
