‘Why’s he not ready?’ – Exclusive: McAvennie slates West Ham after Sky transfer reveal

Frank McAvennie has warned West Ham that they must give their academy players “an insight into the first team” as Benicio Baker-Boaitey nears his exit from the club.

The Irons legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was unsurprised that the 16-year-old is considering a move to Germany given what has gone before him.

Sky Sports claim that the winger has flown to Germany today to talk to a number of German clubs including Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica are all reported to have been monitoring the England Under-16 international over the past 18 months.

McAvennie suggested that if the player is ready to move to Bayern Munich he should be a part of David Moyes’s squad.

“Dortmund have just took Bellingham from Birmingham and Sancho has already gone over there,” he told Football Insider.

“In Germany, they give the boys a chance. It is a different culture for the boys, they live and breath football. They eat, sleep and train – that is all they do. It is great for England because they are getting great experience.

“But if he is ready to go to a club like Bayern Munich, why is he not ready to be a part of the first team squad at West Ham.

“They should have given him a wee insight into the first team squad so he feels part of it because if a youngster doesn’t feel part of it he will want to go.”
