Wilfried Nancy’s first Celtic signing made clear after scenes vs Dundee: ‘Just get it done’

Celtic secured yet another victory in the Premiership as they beat Dundee 1-0 at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

Daizen Maeda’s 11th-minute header proved to be the only goal of the game in the midweek clash, as Martin O’Neill signed off on his interim spell in charge with another three points.

They 73-year-old has ended with a 100 per cent record in domestic action, but will now hand over the reins, as Celtic confirmed Wilfried Nancy’s appointment shortly before the game.

Celtic fans want permanent deal for Marcelo Saracchi

Saracchi joined Celtic on loan from Boca Juniors in the summer, but his time in Scotland has been heavily disrupted by injuries so far.

The defender has started just eight games in the Premiership so far in 2025-26, but caught the eye with his performance in the recent win over Hibernian last weekend.

The Uruguayan was handed another start by O’Neill against Dundee, and he had a bright first half as he got on the front foot regularly, created one chance and had a shot on target.

However, the injury issues flared up for the left-back yet again, as he was forced off on the stroke of half-time.

Celtic fans took to X to show their support for Saracchi in another unfortunate moment, and many suggested that he has still shown enough for the club to pursue a permanent deal for him.

Marcelo Sarrachi’s injury record explained

Saracchi has been plagued by injuries at Celtic so far this season, and their fans will be disappointed to know that this is a fairly regular occurence for the 27-year-old.

The Boca Juniors loanee has struggled with his availability for several years now, and he managed just seven league appearances for his parent club over the course of last season.

His issues can be highlighted further by the fact that Saracchi hasn’t managed to surpass 20 league appearances in a single campaign since he was at Levante back in 2022-23.

He has been hugely impressive during his time in Glasgow, but despite the fans’ desire to see his stay extended, Celtic will need to think with their heads rather than their heart on this occasion.

They should not be looking to committ to a permanent deal for Saracchi unless his fitness levels dramatically improve in the second half of the campaign.
