Wilkins grades West Ham display v West Brom

By Aramide Oladipo

Ray Wilkins has graded West Ham United’s performance as a “B+” as they managed to secure a 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.

Slaven Bilic’s side picked up back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon at the Hawthorns and Wilkins was impressed with their performance and hailed it as a “great point”.

The Hammers managed to earn their first away point in the league this season following disappointing defeats at the hands of Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle United.

West Ham failed to create many chances against a compact West Brom outfit but midfielder Pedro Obiang came closest to opening the scoring with a stunning long-range effort which smashed the crossbar in the first-half.

Expressing his opinion on the Sky Sports website, Wilkins believes that the Hammers should be satisfied with the draw because West Brom are a very tough side to beat on the road.

“Facing any Tony Pulis side at home is a danger,” he wrote.

“West Ham would have gone there thinking they would have to be on their mettle for set plays, and to come away with a draw they certainly were.

“It’s a great point for West Ham because for me, The Hawthorns is developing into one of the hardest places to go in the Premier League.”

With Everton suffering a heavy defeat on Sunday, West Ham are currently out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

The East London club will now turn their attentions to the Carabao Cup as they welcome Championship side Bolton Wanderers to the London Stadium on Tuesday night.
