William Osula transfer edges closer as deal accelerated, he ‘wants’ to leave Newcastle

Eintracht Frankfurt have reignited their interest in Newcastle striker William Osula as he seeks an exit route in the January window.

William Osula led the line for Newcastle in the early stages of the season while Nick Woltemade bedded in, and he proved his quality in front of goal with a strike against Liverpool and a brace against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup last month.

He had been linked with a move away from Tyneside all summer, but the Alexander Isak saga and their struggle to get a new centre-forward in meant Newcastle kept hold of the 22-year-old past the deadline.

Reports emerged following the end of the window that PIF pulled the plug on letting Osula leave very close to the deadline after a permanent transfer of around £30million had reportedly been agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has barely featured under Eddie Howe since those early-season opportunities, and could leave in January with Frankfurt returning to the a potential deal after suffering a major injury.

Frankfurt want Osula and he is open to the move – Newcastle prefer a permanent move

Osula has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the last three weeks, but before that he had not started since scoring twice against Bradford on 24 September.

Sky Sport Germany’s Patrick Berger has now reported, via X, that Eintracht Frankfurt are currently considering a winter transfer for Osula, with the structure of the deal yet to be decided.

Newcastle are thought to be prefer to sell the 22-year-old permanently, while he still “only wants” to go to Frankfurt after his summer move fell through.

Their renewed interest has come about due to an injury to their main striker, Germany international Jonathan Burkardt, with a new striker now needing to be signed.

Yoane Wissa return timely for Newcastle with Osula exit mooted

Football Insider revealed in September that Osula could be allowed to leave Newcastle in the mid-season window after he failed to secure a summer exit.

He has played second-fiddle to Woltemade this season, with Yoane Wissa still yet to make his Magpies debut after a big-money summer move from Brentford.

Wissa is now in full training with his Newcastle teammates, and is expected to be fit to play against arch-rivals Sunderland on 14 December, as well as to stay on Tyneside rather than go to AFCON with DR Congo.

Howe has admitted that the 29-year-old is “doing well”, and his return to full fitness is likely set to be a major reason why Newcastle are so content to let Osula leave in January.
