Winks is ‘a Conte player’ after ‘superb’ Tottenham training ground reveal – pundit

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on “superb” Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks for taking his opportunity under Antonio Conte.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Conte is “bringing the best” out of the 25-year-old who struggled under Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Winks was handed a rare Premier League start last Sunday and he rewarded his manager’s faith with a standout display in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

He followed up with a substitute appearance in Wednesday’s 2-1 League Cup win over West Ham, replacing Lucas Moura 61 minutes in.

As quoted by Football.London (19 December), Conte revealed he has been very impressed with the 10-times England international in training.

He added that the centre-midfielder is “very, very good” when playing in front of a back three.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Winks’ situation, Robinson said:

“I knew this was going to happen when Conte came in because he is a Conte type of player. His engine, his work rate and ability on the ball is befitting of a Conte player.

“Winks has been given an opportunity and he has taken it. He’s been superb.

“You’d think [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg will be the first choice midfielder. The question is who is next to him and going forward you would have to presume Winks will be the one who sits next to him.

“Conte is bringing out the best of him.”
