Winter break can help out-of-form Celtic mainstay recapture past glories

COMMENT

One major talking point of Celtic’s poor performance against Rangers in the goalless Old Firm derby is the performance of Scott Sinclair.

The reigning Scottish player of the year has scored 15 goals so far this season, but many supporters have still been critical of the first-team mainstay’s overall play in comparison to last term.

The Englishman missed a huge chance to give the Hoops the lead on the stroke of half-time, side-footing the ball past the post when it looked easier to score.

He had been on the periphery of the game before the missed opportunity and returned to it after missing the chance and it wasn’t a surprise to see him substituted in the second-half.

Sinclair looks jaded like most of the rest of the Celtic team currently do, as the sheer volume of games has finally caught up with them.

He is capable of being by far the best player in Scotland when he is on his game, but that hasn’t been shown in recent months.

Brendan Rodgers and the Hoops supporters will be hoping that the upcoming winter break in Dubai will give the winger a chance to rest and recuperate ahead of the return to action on the 20th of January against Brechin in the Scottish Cup.

Sinclair is one of Celtic’s most important players and with fellow wingers Patrick Roberts and Jonny Hayes out injured it’s vital for the team that he starts performing to his abilities once again.
