Wissa reacts as Mbeumo signs off Brentford season amid Man United, Newcastle links
Bryan Mbeumo’s season ended the same way it began, with a goal, as his opener for Brentford on Sunday cemented his place among the Premier League’s top scorers.
His effort in Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Wolves on Sunday saw the Cameroon international hit 20 goals for the 2024/25 campaign, sparking a fresh wave of speculation regarding his future.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his career to date after forming a lethal partnership with teammate Yoane Wissa, who also chipped in with 19 league goals of his own.
Between them, the French-born pair produced 52 goal involvements in all competitions in a season that saw Thomas Frank’s side finish 10th in the table.

Wissa keeping quiet in response to Mbeumo speculation
Following his goalscoring finale in what could turn out to be his last game for Brentford, Mbeumo took to Instagram to thank the club and as well as The Bees’ supporters.
“It’s been an amazing season,” wrote the Troyes academy product. “Thanks to the team for the hard work we put in (sic) the pitch and the fans for the unreal support they gave us throughout the season.”
One of the first to react was Wissa, who paid tribute to his fellow attacker with a simple two-letter response: “The Player.”
Tellingly, it was accompanied by a zipped mouth emoji, indicating he was staying silent on the potential transfer news to come.

Football Insider Verdict
After making such an impact in the top flight this season, Mbeumo is a player in demand. Sources have told Football Insider that an offer from Manchester United in the region of £60million would come close to matching Brentford’s asking price.
Newcastle United are also said to be at the table, and have the added incentive of Champions League football up their sleeve after a fifth-place finish was confirmed on the final day.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe is in the market for a striker and a right-sided winger this summer, and may well view Mbeumo as a two-in-one signing given he has primarily lined up on the right this term but can also play as a centre-forward.
Set to play for Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations later this year, the man now affectionately known as “The Player” will hope to avoid a summer of speculation and a quick resolution in terms of his next move.
