‘Without a doubt’ – Exclusive: Robinson confident ‘Top player’ will break into Liverpool squad

Paul Robinson revealed that he was confident that Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson would break into the Reds’ first-team squad next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England No.1 shared that he thought as long as Wilson kept impressing for Wales and Bournemouth this season then he’ll be in the Reds’ first-team squad next season.

Wilson has racked up four goals for Bournemouth this season across 13 appearances while on loan with Eddie Howe’s side and recently scored his third-ever goal for Wales during their 2-0 win over Azerbaijan.

Robinson explained that he believes Liverpool’s first-team isn’t impossible to break into as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had forced his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans this season by making an impact.

When asked whether Wilson had a bright future at Anfield given the level of competition, Robinson told Football Insider: “It’s not an impossible team to break into as we’ve seen that this year with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain if you get a chance and you make an impact, then you stay in the team.

“He’s going very well at Bournemouth and internationally as well and the only thing he can do is exactly that.

“He’s gone to Bournemouth to get game time, he’s a top player, he hasn’t gone to a Championship or League One side, he’s gone to another Premier League side.

“Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on him and I’m sure if he is there the full season, which I think he will be as they won’t pull him back, but I’m sure next season, if he continues to impress then he’ll feature within Klopp’s squad without a doubt.”

Wilson has so far managed to make only one appearance for the Reds’ senior team in his career, with him featuring in the 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in 2017’s FA Cup.

The 22-year-old winger spent his 2018/19 campaign away from Anfield as well, as he went on loan to Championship side Derby County where he racked up 18 goals and six assists in 49 outings.
