Wolves agree Sam Johnstone deal as medical begins – sources
Wolves have agreed a £10million fee with Crystal Palace for Sam Johnstone as they close in on a late-window deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The shot-stopper, 31, was due to begin his medical in the Midlands on Wednesday (28 August).
Wolves pulled the plug on signing Aaron Ramsdale and turned their attention to Johnstone after being put off by the cost of a deal for the Arsenal star and his wage demands.
It is believed the Gunners wanted to sell the England international – and Southampton are now set to seal a permanent deal for Ramsdale.
Johnstone had fallen down the pecking order with Palace and was considered a backup to first-choice shot-stopper Dean Henderson.
Ramsdale too expensive for Wolves as Johnstone completes club medical
He made 23 appearances across all competitions last term but spent significant time out with calf and elbow injuries.
The four-cap England international has made 66 appearances in the Premier League during his career to date, conceding 111 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets.

Johnstone is set to come in and replace Jose Sa at Wolves after the Molineux club conceded eight goals in their first two league games.
Sa was replaced by Daniel Bentley on Wednesday (28 August) as Gary O’Neil’s side beat Burnley 2-0 in the League Cup.
