Whilst the daggers are out from Wolves supporters after the club were linked with Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala this summer, if they are going to become mainstays of the Premier League his signing could be key.
The 27-year-old Frenchman is out of contract with the champions next summer and with Pep Guardiola looking to move the player on from the Etihad, the Championship winners are looking to step in and secure his signature.
Mangala is a client of Jorge Mendes which means it would be a simple enough deal to tie up given the super-agent’s connections with the Molineux club.
Yes, he has struggled with injuries (he even has a knee injury at the point of writing), and yes he has looked out of match fitness when he has featured this season, but he has not been given sufficient opportunities to reignite his form from years gone by.
Alongside Conor Coady, he can steel an untested top-flight rearguard, and give them the experience of his time in the Premier League.
At 27, Mangala is still in his prime and with minutes under his belt and a manager who believes in him, he can recapture his previously seen form which at one time made him a favourite amongst City supporters.
He’s a Premier League winner, a double league cup winner and a former France international. Wolves fans could do a whole lot worse.
If they have faith in him, they could pick up one of the bargains of the summer.
