Wolves explore free agent defender signing – O’Rourke

Wolves are keeping an eye on the free agent market after Yerson Mosquera’s injury, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Gary O’Neil’s side are ‘exploring all options’ after Mosquera, 23, was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

The Colombia international has undergone scans after twisting his knee in a clash with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and will now require an operation.

Wolves are now severely lacking in numbers at the heart of defence after failing to sign a direct replacement for former captain Max Kilman who joined West Ham for £40million.

With a 24-man squad and only seven homegrown players, Wolves will be limited to homegrown free agents if they’re looking to strengthen the position as per the quota set by the Premier League.

Wolves eye free agent after serious Yerson Mosquera injury

Mosquera had played every minute for O’Neil’s side this season before picking up the knee injury in their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday (September 21).

The club now only have two fully fit central defenders in Craig Dawson and Santiago Bueno after Toti Gomes and Bastien Meupiyou were ruled out until October.

Wolves currently sit dead last in the Premier League after losing four and drawing one in their opening five games.

Football Insider revealed (September 24) that O’Neil will face intense sack pressure at Wolves if the Midlands club’s results don’t improve.

It won’t be getting any easier for them this Saturday (September 28) as they prepare to face free-scoring Liverpool at the Molineux.
