Wolves fans get ‘very excited’: Major Conor Coady reunion update

Wolves fans were “very excited” about a potential reunion with Leicester defender Conor Coady but look set to be let down, according to Sky Sports.

The Midlands side were exploring a potential return for their former captain from Premier League rivals Leicester.

That deal could have also seen current Wolves defender, Craig Dawson, heading the other way [The Mirror].

However, the deal has fallen through, much to the dismay of some Wolves fans who were very excited about the possibility of Coady’s return to the club.

Danyal Khan reported on Sky Sports: “Wolves fans were getting very excited about the potential return of their former captain but talks have come to an end. Those talks were at an early stage but didn’t progress. There will be no reunion for Coady.”

Wolves and Leicester swap with Craig Dawson looks off

Football Insider Verdict

Having seen deals for RC Lens’ Kevin Danso, and Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, fall through, Wolves are in danger of being left weak at the back if they cannot find a new defender on deadline day.

Emmanuel Agbadou was signed from Stade Reims in France, but manager Vitor Pereira is still limited in his defensive options, as the Portuguese manager prefers a three at the back system.

Pereira’s defensive options are now Agbadou, Santiago Bueno, Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson, and the Midlands side look desperate for more quality in that area of the pitch.

Wolves, Matheus Cunha
Matheus Cunha looks set to stay at Wolves this season.

Wolves have conceded the third-highest total of goals in the Premier League this season, having shipped 52 in just 24 games.

That defensive fragility sees them hover just two points above the relegation zone, as they sit 17th with 19 points.

Despite missing out on a number of defensive transfer targets, the good news is that top-scorer, Matheus Cunha, looks set to stay at the club after his message on social media.

In other news, there is an update on Joao Gomes’ move to Liverpool.
