Wolves have ‘bigger issues’ than Jorgen Strand Larsen contract – ‘he’s not in big demand’

Wolves have been told that they have bigger issues than tying Jorgen Strand Larsen down to a new contract.

Strand Larsen was heavily linked with Newcastle United over the summer, but the Midlands side rejected all approaches for their centre-forward.

In the end, Newcastle opted for Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade to replace Alexander Isak, but it has left Vitor Pereira’s side concerned about the future of their star striker.

Wolves are working on a new deal with Strand Larsen, in the hope of reaching an agreement in the coming weeks.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – doesn’t believe that the 25-year-old’s contract extension is a priority.

Strand Larsen won’t attract any more interest

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Strand Larsen is unlikely to attract more interest in January, and that the Newcastle situation was a one-time thing.

Wolves currently sit bottom of the Premier League with no points from four games, after what has been a terrible start to the season.

Wyness added that Pereira’s side have bigger issues away from Strand Larsen’s contract situation.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think there’ll be any more interest unless he really does well.

“I don’t see him doing worse, though. I think he’s going to be a decent performer for Wolves, but they’ve got other bigger issues as well.

“I think they’re probably best to get some sort of settled contract with him. I don’t think he’s going to be in big demand. I think the Newcastle situation was the one that was really the potential way out for him.

“I don’t think there’ll be that many Newcastle-type situations coming up. So I think Wolves are best to get him tied down and try and keep the squad together and get some cohesion going, which is what they need.”

Howard Webb told to suspend referee after Wolves incident

Meanwhile, Howard Webb must remove Chris Kavanagh from officiating duty for the upcoming Premier League fixtures.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official, Keith Hackett, who claims that the experienced official missed a clear sending off during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Wolves.

Yerson Mosquera avoided a sending-off after dragging Harvey Barnes down in the 20th minute, following a long ball over the top of the Old Gold’s defence.

The 24-year-old made clear contact with the winger, even catching him with a stray elbow, but the referee and VAR were completely unmoved by the incident, seeing the centre-back go unpunished.
