Wolves have given Rob Edwards ‘assurances’ but January spending spree hinges on one thing
Rob Edwards will have been given assurances regarding Wolves’ spending in the January transfer window, according to a former Premier League CEO.
Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira at Molineux on 12 November, leaving a Middlesbrough side who are fighting at the top of the Championship.
In contrast, the Old Gold sit rock bottom of the Premier League as it stands, already eight points adrift of safety.
On Saturday (22 November), Edwards will take charge of his first game in the job, as the Midlands side face Crystal Palace.

Rob Edwards set for ‘long-term’ spell at Wolves
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Edwards will have been given assurances that Wolves are going to spend in January.
However, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Fosun will only invest in the squad if the Old Gold can stay within touching distance of Premier League survival over the next month.
Currently, Wolves have just two points from 11 games, and are at risk of being cut adrift at the bottom of the league.
Wyness added that he has no doubt Edwards has agreed a long-term position at Molineux, and will be seen as the man to guide the Midlands side up from the Championship if they do get relegated.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve got no doubt that Rob Edwards has agreed a longer-term position and he would be looked at as the man to bring them up from the Championship should they go down.
“But nevertheless, I’m sure he would not have taken the job unless he’d been given that assurance that they’re going to have a real go in January.
“If they stay at just two points by the turn of the year, the owner may be thinking, I’m going to take my medicine and I’m going to put that money back into investing in the Championship.
“So let’s just wait and see, but if they win a few games and they’re up within touching distance, four or five points off safety, then I think they would have a go.”
Wolves eye double signing in January
Edwards is targeting a striker and a winger signing at Wolves in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Unsurprisingly, the Midlands side have scored the fewest goals out of any top-flight team, finding the back of the net just seven times this season.
With the January transfer window approaching, sources say that Wolves want to sign a centre forward and a wide attacker to aid their Premier League survival push.
