Wolves move to ward off Man United’s Matheus Cunha interest – sources

Wolves are keen to extend the contract of star man Matheus Cunha, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old will have two years left to run on his deal at Molineux at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

It is believed the Midlands club want to fend off interest in their star attacker from clubs in the Premier League and in Europe.

Football Insider revealed last month (26 November) that Man United are plotting a move to sign Cunha next summer.

Wolves are desperate to extend the Brazil international’s deal but are currently embroiled in a relegation scrap under Gary O’Neil.

Cunha has hit seven goals and notched three assists in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season.

He scored a fantastic brace last week against Fulham (23 November) as Wolves recorded a crucial 4-1 win away at Fulham.

Wolves want to extend Cunha’s contract

The attacker headed to Molineux from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 on an initial loan deal.

However, the loan included an obligation to buy which saw the move become permanent for a reported fee of £44million.

He has notched 23 goals and 12 assists in 70 games for the Midlands club.

Wolves

Wolves have been forced to sell their best players in recent windows, with Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Max Kilman and Pedro Neto all departing for huge fees.

O’Neil’s side, who are next in action against Everton on Wednesday (4 December), sit 18th in the Premier League table after 13 games.
