‘Wolves plan complicates Man United push to sign Matheus Cunha v Arsenal, Forest’

Man United are faced with an issue with their plans to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the summer transfer window.

Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to provide a consistent source of goals for the Old Trafford club over the course of this season.

As a result, a new centre-forward will inevitably be among the top priorities for Ruben Amorim once the transfer window opens this summer.

It has been rumoured that Cunha is one option Man United are exploring as they aim to boost their firepower ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

However, Wolves‘ stance over the future of the Brazilian looks as though it will cause problems for the Red Devils in their attempts to bring him to Old Trafford.

Wolves set out Matheus Cunha plan

Unsurprisingly given his form this season, Man United are far from the only club who have been linked with a move for Cunha recently.

Arsenal are also understood to be keen on a deal for the Wolves striker, as they look to secure the centre-forward option they need to move closer to the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are believed to be readying a club record move for Cunha, as Nunu Espirito Santo’s side aim to build on what has been an excellent season at The City Ground.

Now, a report from The Athletic indicates that Wolves are keen to secure a quick resolution to the striker’s future once the window opens.

That means if he is to be sold they will look to make a deal happen early in the summer, giving them enough time to source a replacement.

Such a situation would complicate things for Man United on Cunha, due to the fact that they will have to raise funds first by selling players, before they can invest in new signings.

It is also noted that Wolves would want the £62.5million release clause in the attacker’s contract to be paid in full, although they could be flexible about receiving payments in installments.

In spite of all that, it is claimed that Man United believe it is still “plausible ‘that they could sign both Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap this summer.

Man United need attacking signings

Football Insider Verdict

It feels essential that the Red Devils find a way to get deals for the likes of Delap and Cunha done once the transfer window opens.

There has been a distinct lack of goals from the centre-forward options available to Man United this season, something they have to change to climb back up the table.

Given both Hojlund and Zirkzee came straight to Old Trafford from clubs in Italy, it could be important that they now find players who are already proven in the Premier League.

Both Cunha and Delap have shown recently that they can get plenty of goals in this division, even while they are playing for sides who have struggled.

As a result, there should be no reason that the pair could not turn around the fortunes of Man United in front of goal if they do make these moves.

With that in mind, those in charge at Old Trafford may be looking to secure some quick sales of their own in the summer, to bring in the funds they need to get these deals done while they have the chance.
