Wolves points deduction: Kieran Maguire shares verdict after ‘substantial losses’
Wolves have suffered substantial losses over the past two years but should avoid a breach of PSR because of the £53million sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Wolves are under new ownership at this point next year.
Wolves announced a net loss of £67.2million in their latest 2022-23 accounts which followed losses of £46.1million in 2021-22.
As a result, it has been speculated that the club are close to breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules with finance expert Stefan Borson suggesting that Wolves are “very close to – and maybe over – limit for 2023/24”.
Club chairman Jeff Shi previously penned an open letter to fans explaining that they were closely monitoring their losses to comply with Premier League financial rules.
Wolves tipped to avoid PSR breach because of £53m Nunes deal
Maguire explained that the £53million sale of Nunes to Manchester City last summer will help Wolves avoid a breach and a potential points deduction.
“The situation here is a funny one – they have incurred substantial losses over the last two seasons,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“The losses were £113million in 2021 which was distorted by a big loan write-off.

“That is now dropping out of the equation and the sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City will be significant in them avoiding a breach.
“Jeff Shi appears to be shouting about the club and if Wolves were in new ownership by this time next year, I don’t think a huge number of people will be surprised.“
