Wolves ready two January signings as priority target revealed – O’Rourke
Wolves will prioritise defensive signings in the January transfer window as they bid to avoid relegation, sources have told Football Insider.
The Molineux club sacked Gary O’Neil on Sunday (15 December) after a leaky start to the 2024-25 campaign – but the English boss had been let down by injuries and a failure to replace captain Max Kilman.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (16 December), Wolves are confident of sealing the appointment of Al Shabab boss Vitor Pereira as their new manager.
However, Pereira will be operating on an extremely limited budget in the January transfer window – and sources say loan deals are likely to be his only recourse.
O’Neil would have been faced with a limited January budget had he stayed in post – and the situation has now been exacerbated by his sack pay-off.
Loan signings may be the only avenue available to Wolves in January – but the club have both Premier League spots open heading into the new year.

Defensive additions will be high on the agenda of transfer chiefs even if Pereira can shore up the side upon his arrival.
Yerson Mosquera, Bastien Meupiyou and Santiago Bueno are all currently injured, leaving Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson as the only fit senior centre-backs.

Wolves have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this term (40) and sit 19th in the table – five points adrift of safety with games against Leicester, Man United and Tottenham to come before the end of 2024.
The Molineux club have been in the top flight since 2018, when they gained promotion as champions under Nuno Espirito Santo.
