Wolves slammed for agreeing deal that fans will hate – Kieran Maguire
Wolves have blundered by agreeing a sponsorship deal with DeBet despite the Premier League choosing to ban gambling sponsors on shirts.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Wolves owners do not seem interested in investing their own money into the club.
As reported by the BBC, Wolves are close to announcing a new front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Vietnamese online betting company DeBet.
Hwang Hee-chan and Mario Lemina have already appeared on the company’s website ahead of the deal being officially announced.
Premier League clubs voted to ban gambling sponsors on the front of shirts from 2025-26, meaning the DeBet agreement will only be a short-term deal for the club.
Maguire argued that the background of DeBet is not something that Wolves fans will want to be attached to either.
Wolves owners taking money from all sources as ‘disappointing’ deal struck
“It is disappointing to see Wolves strike this deal,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Even more so given that the Premier League have announced that front-of-shirt gambling sponsors are going to be phased out and banned.
“So this seems to be one last throw of the dice – to use a gambling phrase.
“The background to DeBet is not something you would want to endorse as a fan so this seems to be a classic case of the club holding their nose and taking the money.

“At times we expect our football clubs to operate to a higher moral and ethical set of standards than some of the other people we deal with in business.
“But the Wolves owners in particular don’t seem interested in investing in the club, and they seem to be trying to get money from all sources.“
