Medical expert: Jose Sa has suffered knee ligament damage after Wolves latest

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa may have suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in the final game of the season.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Sa, 29, was replaced by John Ruddy 45 minutes into the eventual 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday (22 May).

Speaking to club media after the game, the Portuguese shot-stopper claimed that he feels “okay” but is waiting on further assessment.

But Dinnery fears that the player may have suffered an MCL injury.

“It looked like it could be an MCL based on what we saw with the mechanism of injury,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He seemed to slip and extend his leg when he was kicking. He pointed to the inside of his knee when he was in discussions with the medical team.

“It was moments before half-time He tried to continue and ultimately couldn’t.

“So it does seem like there has been a slight tweak or strain of that medial ligament. It’s a shame to end on a setback because he has been very good for them this season.”

Sa, who signed from Olympiakos in July last year, was named Wolves’ Player of the Season for 2021-22.

He played 37 times as Bruno Lage’s side finished 10th in the Premier League.
