Medical expert issues Joao Moutinho verdict after Wolves development that ‘changes everything’

The recent performances of Leander Dendoncker mean that Wolves have no need to rush Joao Moutinho back to fitness.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Belgian midfielder Dendoncker starred in the 2-0 win over Tottenham yesterday (13 February), scoring Wolves’ second with a poached effort.

Portuguese veteran Moutinho meanwhile missed out for the second game in a row with a calf issue.

As quoted by The Athletic after Spurs clash, Wolves boss Bruno Lage revealed that his setback is “not too serious”.

But Dinnery claims that Dendoncker’s performances from midfield have given Wolves the luxury of not having to rush the 35-year-old back.

“There was an outside hope that he might be able to make the matchday squad against Tottenham,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“We know it’s muscular and that it isn’t as severe as might initially have been feared by Wolves fans.

“Now, you look at that result and the performance of Dendoncker in that win and that changes everything there, the whole dynamic.

“There’s no need to hurry him back. They have done really well there. Lage might be tempted to stick with that XI in any case.

Moutinho has netted twice and supplied one assist in 26 outings in 2021-22.

His Wolves side are up to 7th after their impressive win in North London.
