Wolves suffer ‘huge’ Yoane Wissa blow – sources

Brentford are set to price Wolves out of a late-window move for star man Yoane Wissa, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (20 August) that the Molineux club have placed Wissa, 27, at the top of their winger target list.

Wolves are scouring the market for a Pedro Neto replacement following the Portugal international’s switch to Chelsea earlier this month.

Sources say manager Gary O’Neil is a “big fan” of DR Congo international Wissa – but the Midlands club are set to fail with their pursuit of the winger.

Brentford are reluctant to sell as they prepare for Ivan Toney to leave the club for a big-money fee before the 30 August transfer deadline.

Sources say the Bees will therefore demand a “huge” fee for Wissa – who notched 12 goals and three assists for the club last season.

Wolves are still in financial danger despite selling Neto and captain Max Kilman and are unable to make an offer which is too good to turn down for the London club.

Wissa has boosted his value already in the new campaign by netting the winner and grabbing an assist in the 2-1 defeat of Crystal Palace on Sunday (18 August).

Wolves

The winger’s contract at Brentford runs until June 2026 after his most recent extension was signed last year (2023).

Wolves (14th) finished two places and seven points ahead of the Bees in the 2023-24 Premier League table.
