Wolves told to pull plug on sacking Gary O’Neil – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Wolves should stick with Gary O’Neil until they settle on a “clear strategy” to replace him.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed owners Fosun are largely to blame for the club’s poor form after selling “nearly all of their best players”.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (10 December) that Wolves fear the manager job will be a “tough sell” for candidates if they sack O’Neil.
They will now stick with the Englishman past this weekend’s fixture against fellow strugglers Ipswich Town.
Wolves sit 19th in the Premier League table and are four points adrift of safety after 15 games.
Fosun largely to blame for Wolves turmoil – not O’Neil, says Wyness
Wyness claimed a “knee-jerk” sacking is not the right solution for the Molineux club.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “You’ve got to have sympathy for Gary O’Neil.
“Even on Monday, there were some very dubious decisions. Everyone says it works out over the season, but in his case it has all been bad.
“The squad are still playing for him, and I think the fans understand that.
“Fosun understand that to a degree.
“Who could they get to take over? Wolves have sold nearly all of their best players.
“The owners have made bad decisions and they’ve got to accept that. It’s a difficult position.
“Wolves are not attractive right now.

“They’ve got to stick with what they’ve got until they find the right situation rather than knee-jerk.
“It’s better to have a clear strategy rather than get someone to come in and appease the fans.”
