Ajax make approach for Wolves star Santiago Bueno

Ajax have registered their interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Santiago Bueno, sources have told Football Insider.

The Dutch giants have added the centre-back to their shortlist going into the final weeks of the window.

Ajax manager Michel previously managed the 27-year-old at Girona before he departed the Spanish club for Wolves.

Despite the Old Gold’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Bueno had a solid campaign and was awarded the club’s Player of the Season Award.

The defender has since been linked with multiple moves to the Premier League ahead of Wolves’ upcoming Championship campaign.

Bueno is yet to feature for the club since the 2026 World Cup, with Wolves set to kick-start their Championship season on Friday as they host Blackburn Rovers at Molineux.

Wolves could struggle to hold onto Santiago Bueno this summer

If Rafa Acevedo Toscano’s report is correct, Wolves may now face a battle to keep hold of Bueno.

So far this summer, the club has been able to keep hold of many of its best players, with Matt Doherty and Joao Gomes being the only notable departures.

However, with the World Cup now at an end, the transfer window is well and truly heating up.

Bueno is likely going to be a target for multiple clubs going into the final weeks, and Ajax could prove to be a very tempting destination.

The Dutch side are in the Conference League and are no doubt one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Wolves and Cesar Peixoto are able to convince him to stay at Molineux as they hunt for promotion.

Are Wolves currently looking to sign anyone?

While Wolves’ transfer activity has gone quiet in recent weeks, signings are still being eyed.

Reports have emerged that Wolves are advancing with their interest in Rennes’ Jordan James.

The midfielder won the Young Player of the Season award in the Championship in the last campaign after impressing at Leicester City.

Multiple other clubs have also been linked with the Wales international, including Middlesbrough and West Ham United.

However, Wolves will be hopeful that they can now win the race to his signature before the transfer window closes.
