Ellis Simms’ 0.72 and 50.3% stats show how he can transform Wolves’ attack
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly monitoring Coventry City’s Ellis Simms in what could be a late swoop in the transfer window.
The Premier League club are expecting loan offers for the 25-year-old striker from a number of Championship sides.
Wolves are believed to be among the clubs eyeing a potential move before the window slams shut.
Simms played a key role in Coventry’s Championship title victory last season, and scored 13 goals in the second tier.
Now, he could soon return to the division, as Cesar Peixoto eyes upgrades to his front line.
Wolves’ interest is of little surprise when examining the attacker’s stats, which were simply incredible in the 2025-26 campaign.
How good was Ellis Simms last season?
If Darren Witcoop’s report is to be believed, Wolves could complete some excellent business if they were to seal the signing of Simms.
While the striker was not a regular starter last season, when he did play, he would regularly find the net.
According to Fotmob on 18 August, the attacker averaged 0.72 goals, a 0.64 xG, 4.20 shots, 1.88 shots on target and 4.81 aerial duels won with a 50.3 per cent overall success rate in the Championship per 90 minutes.
Therefore, if Wolves can seal the signing, Simms would transform the club’s attack, as it would give them an excellent striker to bring off the bench.
Raul Jimenez is inevitably going to be the main man up top this season, and Adam Armstrong may be pushed out onto the left.
However, this leaves Wolves incredibly light on depth up top, and this was shown when looking at the bench for the Blackburn game.
As a result, if Simms can be signed, it could prove to be a key moment in the Old Gold’s promotion hopes.
Who else are Wolves looking to sign this summer?
Reports emerged on Tuesday that Wolves were monitoring Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amario Cozier-Duberry.
The winger is off the back of an excellent season at Bolton Wanderers, where he helped the club win promotion to the Championship.
Wolves are keen to improve their options out wide, and the 21-year-old is someone they are currently considering.
However, it remains to be seen if the club are able to strike a deal in the remaining weeks.
