‘Worst-case scenario’: This is why Tottenham could be forced to accept Archie Gray offer
Tottenham could be forced to sell Archie Gray and a number of other star players if they suffer relegation from the Premier League this season.
In what has been a dismal season for the North London side, interim boss Igor Tudor still has a lot of work to do if he is to drag them away from a relegation scrap.
West Ham’s 5-2 defeat to Liverpool has afforded Spurs some respite ahead of their trip to Fulham on 1 March, with the chance to pull seven points clear of the drop zone.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, there is still a real chance Tottenham could fall into the Championship.
In that case, they would be unable to keep hold of their best players, and the likes of Gray could be quickly snapped up amid growing interest in his services.

Football Insider revealed on 27 February that Tottenham have no plans to sell Gray and see him as a vital part of their squad both now and for the future.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are among the teams being tipped with a move for the versatile midfielder, but Spurs are prepared to do what they can to keep him.
However, if they do suffer a shock relegation, those plans will have to be scrapped and the biggest clubs across Europe will likely make moves to lure him away.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously, Tottenham spent a lot of money to sign Archie Gray from Leeds.
“He’s been one of the shining lights for Tottenham in the last 12-18 months.
“Such a versatile player, he’s slotted into so many positions. Right-back, centre-back, midfield, he’s played everywhere and been a real success for Spurs.
“Obviously they’re battling relegation right now as well but I don’t think they’ll be entertaining any offers for Archie Gray.
“Only if the worst-case scenario comes through and they got relegated, then something potentially could happen.

“Tottenham are really looking ahead to the future want to keep Gray and build around him rather than allowing him to move on, despite the interest from the top European clubs.
“But if they go down, they could be forced to sell him because it will be difficult for them to keep hold of their best players.”
Which other players could be set to leave Tottenham?
Gray is not the only star name being linked with a move away from North London this summer after what has proved to be a nightmare season for Spurs.
Football Insider revealed on 23 February that Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven could leave Tottenham, with plans already in place for that eventuality.
Both Romero and Van de Ven have been linked with some of Europe’s top clubs in recent weeks, with the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid keeping tabs on their situation.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham are prepared to let Guglielmo Vicario leave at the end of the season.
Inter Milan and Juventus are both interested in the goalkeeper and would be prepared to bring him back to Italy, while he would be interested in the move.
