‘Worst signing ever’ -Tottenham fans savage ‘clown’ after his display vs Aston Villa

Premier League action returned this weekend following the international break, and Tottenham fans weren’t happy with one of their players against Aston Villa.

Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United last time out left Thomas Frank’s men firmly in the hunt for Champions League football.

Summer signing Mohammed Kudus has impressed at Spurs since joining from West Ham, and the Ghanaian isn’t the only one to receive plaudits.

Joao Palhinha has been exceptional following his loan move from Bayern Munich. The Portuguese international has locked down the number six role in Frank’s system, showcasing his aggression and ball-playing from deep.

But whilst Palhinha and Kudus have emerged as fan favourites, another signing has struggled to hit a consistent run of form.

Tottenham fans slam Mathys Tel vs Aston Villa

Mathys Tel joined on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich in the summer after the versatile forward spent the second half of 2024/25 on loan.

Tel scored his first goal of the season against Leeds before the break, and many hoped that strike would inspire improved performances.

Sadly, the 20-year-old squandered multiple chances to score during Tottenham’s clash with Aston Villa, and supporters took to social media to vent their frustrations.

“Mathys Tel…what a clown,” one supporter wrote, while another said: “Tel and Odobert can’t hold onto the ball. Frank needs to change something.”

“Odobert and Tel are so indecisive inside the box man,” someone else commented.

“Tel cannot kick a moving ball,” one fan pointed out, and a sixth stated: “Tel as a striker just isn’t for me.”

“Sarr on for Xavi, Muani on for Tel (who again has worked hard just not happening for him),” was one supporter’s message to Frank.

Tel struggled against Aston Villa

Frank chose to start Tel instead of Richarlison as a central striker against Aston Villa.

The Frenchman is arguably better cutting in from the left and doesn’t boast the natural instincts required to play centre-forward.

That was evident during Spurs’ 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa, as the youngster only made five passes and missed one big chance during his time on the pitch.

A disappointing afternoon for Tel drew to a close on the 60th minute, with Richarlison coming on to replace him.
