Wout Weghorst: Tottenham told to sign ‘brilliant’ Burnley star even if they stay up – Expert

Tottenham should sign Burnley striker Wout Weghorst in the summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham lost 1-0 to Burnley on Wednesday night (23 February) in a serious blow to their top-four hopes.

Weghorst made his fifth successive start in Wednesday’s game after he moved to Turf Moor during the January transfer window.

He has so far scored once and chipped in with two assists in his five Premier League outings.

Wenham insists Weghorst should be a target for Tottenham even if Burnley manage to avoid relegation.

“I hope we are watching this guy,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If he continues to deliver, regardless of whether Burnley stay up or not, we should try to sign him.

“He has proven himself as a handful in English football and he’s exactly the kind of backup we need for Harry Kane.

“He could even play alongside him. He’s been brilliant and I have been really impressed by him.

“Tottenham have been linked with him before and some fans turned their noses up at him.

“Actually, he makes an impact and looks very, very good in the Premier League.

“Give me him over someone like Hugo Ekitike who has no experience at this level and is basically a kid.

“He is someone I would hope Tottenham are keeping an eye on.”

Weghorst joined Burnley from Wolfsburg.

He scored 70 goals in 144 total appearances for the German side.
