Exclusive: Wycombe leading race to sign in-demand Lincoln star Paudie O’Connor

Wycombe Wanderers are leading the race for Lincoln City defender Paudie O’Connor on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

O’Connor has attracted interest from a host of League One clubs, while several Championship clubs are also monitoring the defender’s situation.

The 27-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the month when his contract expires, after making 39 third-tier appearances for the Imps in 2024/25.

Meanwhile, Wycombe missed out on promotion back to the Championship after being beaten by Charlton Athletic in the playoff semi-finals last month.

Wycombe close in on O’Connor

O’Connor initially moved to English football when he joined Leeds United from Irish outfit Limerick back in 2017.

He made just four senior appearances for the Whites before joining fellow West Yorkshire club Bradford City in 2019, later moving to Lincoln in 2022.

O’Connor has shone in League One for the Imps, while Wycombe are looking to launch another automatic promotion bid.

Huddersfield eye move for Wycombe defender Joe Low

Wycombe witnessed their chances of winning automatic promotion to the Championship slip away when former boss Matt Bloomfield left to join Luton Town, who will be joining Wanderers in League One next season.

Successor Mike Dodds was unable to guide a squad compiled by Bloomfield to the second tier and will be keen to reshape his ranks during the summer transfer window.

O’Connor could prove to be a real asset for Dodds’ men as he notched three goals and four assists for Lincoln in the 2024/25 League One season, alongside his impressive defensive exploits.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield want to sign Joe Low from Wycombe, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider.

O’Connor could prove to be a worthy replacement for his fellow centre-back, but Wanderers will not be keen to see the talented 23-year-old join a potential League One promotion rival.

After failing to land a playoff spot in 2025, Huddersfield will be eager to seal a Championship return at the second time of asking next season.
