Xabi Alonso now firm favourite to take charge at London club after Real Madrid sack

Xabi Alonso has emerged as the new favourite to replace Thomas Frank as Tottenham’s manager after being sacked by Real Madrid.

Alonso was dismissed by Madrid on Monday after less than eight months in charge following a Super Cup loss to rivals Barcelona.

He was appointed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor last summer after leading Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2024, but things did not go to plan in the Spanish capital.

The Spaniard was relieved of his duties with Madrid sitting second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona, but it may not take long for him to return to management.

Man United have been tipped to move for Alonso as they search for a new long-term, permanent boss, yet Tottenham could move to appoint him soon amid uncertainty around Frank‘s position in charge.

Alonso is the bookies’ favourite to be the next Tottenham manager

Frank is under pressure at Spurs right now following a troublesome first few months in charge since his move from Brentford to become their new manager.

Tottenham have picked up just 27 points from 21 Premier League games so far, and currently occupy 14th place after a run of one win in their last six league outings.

Sources have told Football Insider that Frank is not under immediate threat of being sacked, but a decision could well be made soon if their poor form continues.

With Spurs potentially set to be looking for a new boss soon, one of the UK’s leading bookmakers has installed Alonso as the favourite to be Frank’s successor, at odds of 4/1.

Who else is in the running to be Spurs’ next permanent manager?

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner was the previous favourite to be Spurs’ next manager, but has now fallen behind Alonso to second in the race at odds of 5/1.

He is followed by a manager of another London-based club, Fulham’s Marco Silva, who comes in at 6/1 odds, while ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is also in the running at 8/1.

Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi and Jurgen Klopp are all also named as potential Frank successors, but the latter has previously stated that he will not manage another English team aside from Liverpool.

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham could appoint an interim boss if Frank is sacked soon, and so a new permanent manager may only be hired at the end of this campaign.
