Xavi in pole position to take Tottenham manager’s job amid huge Thomas Frank twist

Tottenham look set to sack Thomas Frank after they were beaten at home by West Ham on Saturday.

The Lilywhites were defeated 2-1 on home turf, as Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time goal condemned them to a third straight loss in all competitions, in what has been a damaging run of form for their manager.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Tottenham are accelerating their plans to sack Frank in the aftermath of the defeat, with the supporters’ angry reaction at full-time seen as the final straw by the board.

Frank is expected to lose his job in the coming days, and speculation is already swirling as to who could be about to step into his shoes and take the reins in North London.

Xavi’s odds slashed for Tottenham job as Thomas Frank has move ready

Football Insider also revealed that Crystal Palace are planning to offer Frank the chance to lead them forward if he loses his job on the other side of London.

Oliver Glasner recently confirmed his departure from Selhurst Park at the end of the season, and the Dane is viewed as the ideal long-term candidate to pick up where he left off.

That potential twist in Frank’s future has come as the bookmakers are drawing up their list of candidates to replace him at Tottenham.

His dismissal looks increasingly likely after the weekend’s events, and that has coincided with Xavi rising through the betting markets to become the new favourite for the job.

The former Barcelona chief is in pole position to be appointed at Spurs, with one major bookmaker slashing his odds down to 3/1 on Monday.

Xavi currently leads the way from the likes of Xabi Alonso and Glasner, while Tottenham hero Mauricio Pochettino has now drifted out to odds of 4/1.

What has Xavi said about managing in the Premier League?

Xavi was heavily linked with Chelsea before they recently appointed Liam Rosenior as their new boss, and links between him and the Premier League have been frequent in recent seasons.

The 45-year-old never played in the English top flight during his playing career, and as a result, it appears to have fuelled a desire for him to work there during his time in the dugout.

Xavi revealed back in May that he would “love” to work in the Premier League because he “adores the passion” of English football, according to Ultimo Minuto.

While he didn’t go into specifics about which particular clubs he would be keen to work for, the resources that Tottenham make available to their managers would surely see him keen to take on the job.

Xavi is a progressive young coach, and given all the recent links that have emerged, it would be a big surprise if Spurs don’t at least consider him as their next man.
