Yankuba Minteh’s data map vs Brentford shows how badly Newcastle got it wrong

Yankuba Minteh grabbed an assist in Brighton’s 2-1 win over Brentford on 22 November.

The Seagulls extended their unbeaten home record to 10 matches after a fiercely fought match against the Bees.

Brazil’s possible future striker Igor Thiago put Brentford into the lead before strikes from Danny Welbeck and Jack Hinshelwood saw Fabian Hurzeler’s side turn around proceedings.

Amongst the top performers, Liverpool target Minteh was particularly eye-catching as he continues to go from strength to strength.

Minteh dazzles as Brighton triumph in tense match

Minteh has been touted as a £100million player and his display against the Bees once again reminded the Reds what they could have if they decide to sign the winger.

The former Feyenoord man was a creative focal point, delivering four key passes as well as a majestic cross to tee up Welbeck.

His touch map, courtesy of Football Insider’s data partnership with Opta, reflects his integral role in Hurzeler’s side by picking up the ball on the right-hand side to drive at defenders.

The 21-year-old was also an open-play threat as he accrued three shots at goal as the Seagulls dominated the match to pin back the Bees.

He now has four Premier League assists this season, as well as one goal, to provide further anguish for Newcastle after being forced to sell him in the summer of 2024 to meet financial regulations.

Brighton to make dramatic push for Europe once again as form continues to pick up

Given Brighton played Europa League football back in 2023-24, fans will be hoping of a return to the European stage this season.

The victory on the weekend has put the Seagulls into sixth place and in the hunt for a spot in the Conference League or the Europa League.

Hurzeler has come under the microscope for constantly changing his side and conceding easy chances at the back, yet his side have recently solidified their backline as well as the German sticking to a similar starting XI.

Minteh is one of those trusted players and, the fact Gambia don’t play at AFCON, means Brighton can enjoy the benefits of the winger playing frequently over the festive period.
