Yerry Mina could be ‘lynchpin’ for Everton in relegation battle after injury latest – pundit

Yerry Mina may be the lynchpin for Everton in the battle to avoid relegation this season, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Frank Lampard will be desperate for the 27-year-old to return given Michael Keane’s struggles.

Everton’s defensive frailties were exposed on Monday night in a 5-0 loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Toffees were have been without the injured Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey in recent weeks.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (8 March), Lampard revealed Godfrey has returned but confessed Mina is at least a month away.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Everton’s defensive crisis, Robinson said: “Mina is going to be a big lynchpin for them.

“I think they’ve got enough quality in forward areas with [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison but defensively they have been poor.

“They have made far too many mistakes. Michael Keane is not having a great season. He’s been responsible for too many errors but it is not just him.

“There is goals in the team. They just need to sort out their defence.

“They don’t have loads of options back there though so the sooner they can get back Mina the better. Nobody is too good to go down.”
