‘Yoane Wissa to Nottingham Forest dealt major blow’: ‘Struggle’

Nottingham Forest are looking for attacking quality with Yoane Wissa someone whom they’d love to sign.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side narrowly missed out on a spot in the Champions League after a wonderful Premier League season but they’ll be determined to kick on next term and prove it wasn’t a fluke.

With uncertainty over the future of Anthony Elanga, Forest will almost certainly be entering the transfer market for reinforcements.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Elanga is on the radar of Newcastle United and that means that Forest’s interest in Wissa is only going to intensify.

A second bite of the cherry for Wissa

Nottingham Forest’s interest in Wissa is nothing new after the Tricky Trees made a £40 million bid for Wissa in January, only for Brentford rejected the audacious offer.

Arsenal also showed interest in Wissa during January.

Santo’s side will no doubt move again, but according to the latest, they might struggle to fund such a high-profile deal.

Writing in for the Daily Mail (June 11), Tom Collomosse said: “It would have been much easier with Champions League football and Forest will not be Yoane Wissa’s only suitors.

“Brentford are excellent sellers, too, and demand top price for their players.

“Wissa has just 12 months remaining on his contract, with the option to extend it by a further season – I’m sure Brentford will activate that if they can.

“The Bees are demanding about £60m for Bryan Mbeumo and Wissa’s valuation will be similar. I struggle to see Forest going that high, without a major sale.”

Wissa is destined for the top

Nottingham Forest’s interest in Wissa is no surprise, but getting a deal over the line could prove hard to do.

The 28-year-old has netted 14 times in the Premier League, making him the division’s sixth-highest scorer, as Brentford enjoy another steady campaign in the top flight.

With just a year left on his contract, Wissa fueled speculation over a summer exit by appearing to say goodbye to the Brentford fans.

However a move away could be hard to secure, with the Bees already set to lose Thomas Frank to Tottenham and most likely, Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

Wissa is possibly their third-biggest asset at the moment and so Brentford will rightly dig in their heels when it comes to a sale.

For Forest, it’ll be up to them to decide if he’s worth splashing the cash for – especially if they do end up losing Elanga to Newcastle.
