‘You can’t even imagine’ – Gordon lifts the lid on historic Celtic achievement

Craig Gordon has disclosed how difficult it has been for he and his Celtic team-mates to create history and become the first side ever in Scottish football history to win the domestic treble two seasons in a row.

The Bhoys clinched the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 win over Motherwell, and the Hoops number one revealed that it is extremely difficult to maintain the levels of consistency over such a long period of time.

“We’re very happy and delighted with the achievement to back up last year’s invincible treble with another treble,” Gordon said, as quoted by BT Sport.

“You can’t even imagine how difficult a thing that is to do.

“For this group of players now to manage that and do it in some style, it is a fantastic achievement and one that will really stand the test of time.”

Gordon returned to the Hoops starting line-up for the cup final and had a relatively quiet day but had to pull off a good save early in the second-half to deny Motherwell’s Curtis Main.

Football Insider verdict

The consistency shown by the Hoops over the season has been remarkable, and Gordon is correct to point that out. While the Hoops struggled to match the form they showed in last season’s invincible treble, and despite drawing too many games, the Bhoys showed their mettle in managing to grind out the results when they really mattered, such as in the domestic cup competitions and their matches against bitter rivals Rangers. Gordon is also correct when he talks about the feat’s place in history, as the Hoops will be remembered forever, for making history and clinching the treble two seasons in a row. Now all eyes turn to next season, when the Hoops go for a ‘treble treble’, which surely will be too much of an ask for them to achieve, with every team in Scotland doing whatever they can to stop them. However, that is probably what a lot of people said about winning the treble this season, and at the end of the day, with belief, this Hoops side can do anything.
